There is a story behind the Flock of Seagulls hair. The story goes that the hair was an accident. The band was getting ready backstage and Mike Score was in the middle of doing his hair, trying to get it to stand up when the band's manager pushed them all out onto the stage because they were late. Mike's hair flopped down and he thought it was a disaster, until he heard the crowd saying they loved it! From that point on the iconic Flock of Seagulls hairstyle was on!

Quick fact: I Ran did not do very well in terms of record sales, radio play, or even just general popularity especially outside of the US. The song, however, did amazing on MTV where it was put into heavy rotation. The funky video with Mike Score's new wave hair and clothing, along with the crazy mirrors in the background, made the video a big big hit!

Some say the song I Ran is about an alien come down to earth in the form of a cute girl, and Mike Score realizes this and hence ran away. Some believe it is not that deep, that the song is about your first crush and how you are scared of this new experience and, hence, run away. I think it may be about jogging.

When someone's hair is messed up you can say something like, 'hey Flock of Seagulls boy." or "hey nice hair, the flock was cool like thirty years ago"....actually, maybe instead of a joke is just sounds like you are being a jerk. The bands name is still very odd, even by early 80s standards. There are rumours the name comes from some obscure song the band listened to. But, that sounds too manufactured to me. I think they were just jammin' in a garage that faced a dumpster, they were probably drunk and feeding french fries to the seagulls and thought it would be hilarious to name the band flock of seagulls.

It's funny, kids today surrounded by a flock of seagulls trying to eat whatever food you had on your body would find it traumatic. Back in the 80s we'd of laughed so hard at the 'flock of seagulls', like the band, get it, haha!
