MISHEARD LYRICS 80S STYLE #3

YOU'VE BEEN SINGING THE WORDS WRONG FOR YEARS

Maybe you only sing these songs in the shower, or around friends who are too polite to point out your mistakes...but, I'm here to point you in the right direction.

Simply Red's song title of Holding Back The Years, is deceiving since the the lyrics are clearly, "Holding back the ears...holding back the ears of corn". What a cute little pun.

Anything corn is cute - Simply Red

Cutting Crew obviously took a strong stance on the decline in farming in the 80s. "I just died in your barn tonight" has just got to be about the industrialization of the livestock business. Very sad.

Cutting Crew cuts into the industrialization of the farming industry

Journey's massive rock ballad Don't Stop Believing is hard to interpret at some parts. Just like the previous song by Cutting Crew, this one may also be a subtle nod at the farming industry - SHEEP PERFUME (aka manure). But more likely it is a stab at the garment industry using low grade wool for sweaters? That would be a great fun fact to know.

Sheep Perfume - crappy wool (Steve Perry must have really liked good quality wool cardigans?)
