GHOSTBUSTERS - WHO YOU GONNA CALL?

GHOSTBUSTERS SONG AS BIG AS THE MOVIE

1984 - The movie Ghostbusters escapes the vault and is released unto audiences. It is a huge success, and still has a cult following. The theme song by Ray Parker Jr is just a big - creating that familiar phrase "WHO YOU GONNA CALL".

The song has a rather interesting story - stayed at #1 on the Billboard charts for three weeks, nominated for an academy award for best original song, and it also caused a lawsuit.

HUEY LEWIS SUED Ray Parker Jr for plagarism!

Huey claimed the melody was straight from his 'I want a new drug' song.

Strangely, Huey was asked to work on the theme for Ghostbusters, but, turned it down b/c he was working on the music for another huge 80s movie - Back to the Future! You think he was just jealous? He wanted to be known as the 80s movie theme song master?! Maybe.

Who you gonna call?
To me, the song lacks adultness - as in I wouldn't listen to it loud if I were driving in a T-roof 80s Pontiac Firebird with the windows down. And, my kids listen to it on their own free will. But, I still use the catchphrases - "I ain't 'fraid of no ghost" AND when someone asks , 'who you gonna call' I reply with 'ghostbusters'....everytime.

Help find Fang

William Shatner could well be in the next Ghostbusters movie

Paraplasmo levels must be off the charts - janitors with masks too!

Remember, you are wearing a nuclear device on your back - don't cross the streams!

Mmm ecto plasma juice - tastes like chicken

Didn't stay puffed

I do like the movie, and the song, but, one thing I really remember liking was the Atari Ghostbusters game. It has a special place in my heart. It was one of the first games I remember playing. And, one of the first games I remember losing badly at and getting frustrated and swearing I was never going to play that stupid game ever again...then coming back 15 mins later to rehash the frustrating cycle.

Remember playing this on Atari

Harder than it looks

I do think it would be cool to have a ghostbusters shirt...

I've been slimed

Until next time...

SOME DEF LEPPARD MEMES AND JOKES

MIXTAPE OF 80s MUSIC MEMES

REALLY FUNNY 80s MEMES - 80s MUSIC

As time passes the music of the 80s matures and ripens - it takes on new labels like 'classic' and 'oldies'. I'm not insulted, I still know it is the best music ever, so I can laugh at all the 'old' jokes. Mostly b/c I feel sorry for the new generation and their music. Sorry kids.

I love this first meme - "I'm getting old and I'm not even an 80s baby" (and there is crying emoji faces). I'm surprised you are even allowed to drive...dude.

Not an 80s baby

Thanks for the fact Capt Obvious - I think 80s music is actually making a comeback. Have you noticed all the old bands are touring again? It is a comeback or us 'old' people finally have the money to pay for the concert tickets.

80s music was popular in the 80s - that's a fact.

"Geezer Music". I'm thinking that means awesome music. You can go back to texting your friends now little girl. Or better yet tune into this internet radio station - www.radionomy.com/80sthrowbackparty

Yes, there were plenty of music gods in the 80s - the true talent rose up, no matter how bad their hair was (sorry Al).

Weird Al and Run DMC - peace

Us oldies don't Run DMC anymore, we Jog DMC.

Do you know this feeling - you crack a good Police Academy reference and your coworkers (look up from texting on their phones) and say "they don't get it". *makes whoomp-whoomp 80s video game over sound * Happens daily to me.

80s references in the modern workspace may not go over as well as you want them to

If your young coworkers do not get this next meme they need to spend a few hours in front of my VHS player and watch some 'classic' 'oldies'. Or they could buy it from Amazon, only $4.99, and have a drone deliver it to their loft.

Water is essential for life - life as a gremlin

Actually, we might as face reality - we had a good run, but, we are past our prime. Can you see the signs...I know I can.

The signs of aging

Before you take that walk I'll leave you with a few 80s music jokes...

My problem is that my minivan does not have a cassette player!

AC/DC!

Ermahgerdalizm!

Pour some sugar on MAY...that's a good one.

Simon Lebon?!

INTERESTING UNIQUE COVERS OF 80s SONGS

COVERS OF 80s SONGS PLAYED ON STRANGE INSTRUMENTS

There are a lot of things that make noise in this world. And, some creative people use unusual things to make music. There are plenty of rare/strange instruments out there too. I've run across a few musicians who use strange noises or strange instruments to play some really, really, good covers of 80s songs. Here are some:

Don't know what this instrument is called - a harp-thingy? Whatever it is, this guy plays a killer version of Everybody wants to rule the world - TEARS FOR FEARS

Using technology is one way to make an older song sound fresh and hip. How about this take, Joe Jackson's Steppin Out put through an 8 chip Nintendo Gameboy! Now that's using technology!

Adding a violin makes this sound 'classical' - love my classical WHAM

Switching a song's genre is another interesting way to cover a song. How about WHAM again, but, this time turned "thrash metal".

There is a lot of talent out there - tons of great videos like this: Someone at their home piano/keyboard pounding out great 80s music...sometimes wearing interesting clothing.

Anything on the cello is cool - especially Survivor's Eye of the Tiger. These cello players are intense, so buckle up.

RICK ASTLEY STILL ROCKS

Rick Astley has the best fans - young and old and creative.

His music is still going strong. It seems to be a hit with younger people - check out this fan playing Never Gonna Give You Up on a tiny toy keyboard

My Fav BuffCorrell does his take on Never Gonna Give you Up. One of his most popular videos I'll add. Just showing the staying power of Rick Astley's songs.

Modern TV still uses Rick's songs b/c they make people happy.

Watch the reactions of these folks when they get Rickrolled - in real life, by Rick Astley himself. I think it's so cool that Rick is totally going with this whole Rickrolling thing.

Even weather reporters are not safe from Rick and his Rickrolling...

THE MOST 80s OF 80s MUSIC VIDEOS

It's like the Wedding Singer but better - all the cliche 80s references are here

Big blonde hair, the leather clad dude with a bobble hat and their synchronized 80s dance moves. It's the ultimate 1985 music video. Another Brick by FAKE.

LIFE is LIFE by Opus. Just the title of the song sounds 80s to me. The guy is dressed in his Dick Tracey oversized suit in a nice light shade of blue. He is clapping and side stepping nicely to the beat of this awesome 80s dance tune. He's sporting the latest 80s moustache, and his band is pretty sweet too with close cut mullets...and of course there is a great keytar player!

With the outdated disco square floor this band makes up for it by doing everything else 80s. The heavy space sounding synthesizer starts the song, with an easy beat the singer can clap his hands to. The drummer is stoic with a serious look on his face, and the guitar guy is smiling and doing a bad job at faking his guitar. It's Secret Service (what a name) with their 'hit' Flash in the night.

You want to see an 80s man in a skinny tie with heavily hair sprayed hair? Accompanied by a boppin' dude on keyboard? With scantily clad bikini babes (also with with big hair that is rock solid due to many cans of hairspray) in the background? No probs, here you go: Silent Circle 1985!
