1984 - The movie Ghostbusters escapes the vault and is released unto audiences. It is a huge success, and still has a cult following. The theme song by Ray Parker Jr is just a big - creating that familiar phrase "WHO YOU GONNA CALL". The song has a rather interesting story - stayed at #1 on the Billboard charts for three weeks, nominated for an academy award for best original song, and it also caused a lawsuit. HUEY LEWIS SUED Ray Parker Jr for plagarism! Huey claimed the melody was straight from his 'I want a new drug' song.
Strangely, Huey was asked to work on the theme for Ghostbusters, but, turned it down b/c he was working on the music for another huge 80s movie - Back to the Future! You think he was just jealous? He wanted to be known as the 80s movie theme song master?! Maybe.
Who you gonna call?
To me, the song lacks adultness - as in I wouldn't listen to it loud if I were driving in a T-roof 80s Pontiac Firebird with the windows down. And, my kids listen to it on their own free will. But, I still use the catchphrases - "I ain't 'fraid of no ghost" AND when someone asks , 'who you gonna call' I reply with 'ghostbusters'....everytime.

I do like the movie, and the song, but, one thing I really remember liking was the Atari Ghostbusters game. It has a special place in my heart. It was one of the first games I remember playing. And, one of the first games I remember losing badly at and getting frustrated and swearing I was never going to play that stupid game ever again...then coming back 15 mins later to rehash the frustrating cycle.

As time passes the music of the 80s matures and ripens - it takes on new labels like 'classic' and 'oldies'. I'm not insulted, I still know it is the best music ever, so I can laugh at all the 'old' jokes. Mostly b/c I feel sorry for the new generation and their music. Sorry kids. I love this first meme - "I'm getting old and I'm not even an 80s baby" (and there is crying emoji faces). I'm surprised you are even allowed to drive...dude.

There are a lot of things that make noise in this world. And, some creative people use unusual things to make music. There are plenty of rare/strange instruments out there too. I've run across a few musicians who use strange noises or strange instruments to play some really, really, good covers of 80s songs. Anything on the cello is cool - especially Survivor's Eye of the Tiger. These cello players are intense, so buckle up.

LIFE is LIFE by Opus. Just the title of the song sounds 80s to me. The guy is dressed in his Dick Tracey oversized suit in a nice light shade of blue. He is clapping and side stepping nicely to the beat of this awesome 80s dance tune. He's sporting the latest 80s moustache, and his band is pretty sweet too with close cut mullets...and of course there is a great keytar player!
With the outdated disco square floor this band makes up for it by doing everything else 80s. The heavy space sounding synthesizer starts the song, with an easy beat the singer can clap his hands to. The drummer is stoic with a serious look on his face, and the guitar guy is smiling and doing a bad job at faking his guitar. It's Secret Service (what a name) with their 'hit' Flash in the night.
