ELO Hold on Tight vs BILLY JOEL You may be Right

WHICH 80s SONG IS BETTER?

I sometimes hear a song on the radio and think, what a great ELO song (but, it ain't ELO). It happens when I hear BILLY JOEL's - You may be right. Then when I hear ELO's Hold on Tight I think, what a great BILLY JOEL song! You'd think after all these years, and thousands of times hearing the song, I'd get it straight.

Take a second and listen to both songs - tell me they are very close and I'm not an idiot to mix them up.

Billy Joel kinda looks like the ELO guy...

FUNNY VIDEOS WITH 80s MUSIC

There are lots of awesome videos out there using 80s music as inspiration.

How about jogging in time to A HA's TAKE ON ME

How about TOTOs song Africa played on a cheap kids keyboard!

A rubber chicken doing it's best at George Michael's CARELESS WHISPER

Get your own rubber chicken and try to make own music :)

An original 1985 creation - finally digitized for all of us to enjoy. A homemade music video for I Love Rocky Road - Weird Al Yankovic . Oh, boy I can see myself in this kid, luckily we didn't have a video recorder back in the 80s.

A hilarious, and slightly un-PC, take on the video for Hello by Lionel Ritchie

In 2012 Honda used Ozzy's CRAZY TRAIN in an ad - a family pulls together a random acapella style version of the song. It's pretty funny.

And, I'll leave you with one of my favourite 80s songs, Joe Jackson's Steppin' Out. I like to groove and move to this song too, but, I don't quite have the moves that this dude does. But, I love how inspired he is by this great song to make a video!

BLESS THE RAINS DOWN IN AFRICA

TOTO AFRICA MEMES

Toto's song Africa hit the number 1 spot on the billboard charts in 1983 and has been misheard by millions worldwide. There have been countless car karaoke mistakes with the lyrics. And, it's gone on long enough. The lyrics are "I BLESS the rains down in Africa!" BLESS! BLESS!
Not MISS!
Not KISS!
Not FELT!
Not SAW!

Toto's Africa lyrics are mixed up by all

Even Dads mistake the lyrics to AFRICA
TOTO says it best...

Right on Toto Bless The Rain
Get it? TOTO.

Rumour has it that some of the rain Toto blessed fell onto the top of Mount Kilimanjaro - it froze and is still there to this very day!

Toto blessed the rain in Africa and some of it was frozen on the peak of Kilimanjaro

Apparently, the band wrote the song about Africa, yet, had never actually been to the continent. I guess they blessed the rain after they sold their millionth copy of TOTO IV. At that point they believed they were rock gods - soft rock gods!

TOTO - Soft Rock Gods of 1983
The song was a huge hit in Canada which may be why thirty odd years later Karl Wolf did a remix /cover of the song which had a lot of airplay in Canada (hitting the 2 spot on the Canada Hot 100 chart).

The original by TOTO - you decide which one is better.

I will leave you with one last question:

I believe the rain will win.

EURYTHMICS MEMES

SWEET DREAMS ARE MADE OF CHEESE

Eurythmics are made of the 80s. The word conjures up images of swooping hair, new wave make up, and synthesized dance music. In my mind, only Flock of Seagulls is a more 80s word.

Sweet Dreams was a huge hit for those Eurythmics - and it has also been a huge hit for punny meme generators. Look see:

I'm thinking cheese and ritz make a sweet dream too!

No sweet dream, more like a nightmare!

♪ Turn around. Every now and then I get a little bit mee-mee...♪

Eurythmics meme!

MY ATTEMPT AT KEEPING THE 80s ALIVE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION

When the weather turns precipitous I always quote the Eurythmics. ♪ HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN ♪ and sing a little bit of the song to my children.

That never gets old (Dad!)

Here Comes the Rain Again - get the umbrella!

At least I've planted that seed in my kids heads. A quote that will stay with them every time it rains. A little piece of the 80s passed along to the next generation. Your welcome.

Eurythmics is a real word - it means 80s music
