MUSIC OF THE 80S MEMES

VERY FUNNY MEMES OF 80S MUSIC BANDS

Sting, what a rockstar name, was huge in the 80s. First with the Police, then with himself. Fun fact: the song "Don't Stand So Close To Me", was actually written about Sting's shadow.
Sting - Don't Stand So Close To Me
Interior design was coming into its own in the 80s as well. The music of the decade had some influence as well. Whitesnake's hit song "Here I Go Again (On My Own)" inspired the third wheel style booth that was popular in many fast food restaurants in the mid to late 80s.
Whitesnake - Here I Go Again On My Own

Way before the 10 cent a minute long distance plans, we all remember waiting until evening to make a long distance phone call. Even Stevie Wonder, who would call just to say I love you, waited until at least 8pm when the rates were low. Smart man that Stevie Wonder.

Now, back in the day I was a huge Tears for Fears fan. I was head over heels, wanted to rule the world, sowed some seeds of love...and it turns out there were some pretty famous people who were also fans of Tears for Fears. Including one Darth Vader.
Tears For Fears Fan, Darth Vader, wants to rule the world

Big fan of early Phil Collins as well. I still stop whatever I'm doing when In The Air comes on the radio. I wait patiently for the wicked drum solo that really gets the song going and I air drum along. Usually I grab whatever is nearby to use as drumsticks - nowadays, it's usually chop sticks (how modern am I?). But, what I'm saying is always be ready to rock out and air drum along to that song.

I really liked U2 as well. All of their albums, not just Joshua Tree. I thought I was pretty clever, and funny, when I took the song With or Without You literally. Where would Bono live? Not With and Not Without You as shown in this diagram.

U2 Bono cannot live with or without you

That sounds like a fantasy world to me. Reminds me of that Queen lyric, "is this just real life or is this just fantasy?" Sometimes I look back on the 80s and think, I'm not 100% sure that was real.
Queen meme
Like dancing in the 80s. I used to vogue a lot, I mean a lot. I'd also try a bunch of arm twisting moves in an homage to David Bowie. I'd crank up, Let's Dance, and I'd sway to the beat.
David Bowie - Let's Dance
Sometimes I'd want some harder music, not sound-like-a-cordless-drill metal, but something with long hair and a beat to bang to. You know who fits that bill? Def Leppard! Hysterica, Imagica, Photographica...okay, I just sound like an ass now making fun of 80s rock.
I want to hear Def Leppard NOW says Veruca Salt!

Bon Jovi was another great guy/band that I loved to rock out to. But, the poor guy get's Shot Through The Heart and I'm not sure he lived? Luckily he didn't get shot through the head.
Shot Through The Heart - Bon Jovi funny
I say good thing, because Bon Jovi was the cassette I'd put on when the ladies were in the car and we'd head up to heartbreak hill. Get the 80s prom dress on, the white suit, lots of hairspray and get ready for a night of Bon Jovi and making out in a Buick.

You know who I alway thought looked like Jon Bon Jovi...John Cougar Mellencamp. You know the guy who sang about his small town, and about the kids from that small town. I wonder which town it actually was?
John Cougar sings about a small town, over and over and over again.
I'll leave you with one last Pat Benetar meme. It's not mine, but I found it very funny. Love is a battlefield.

80S MEMES BLAST FROM THE PAST

FUNNY 80S MEMES COMING UP

Hall and Oates was on the radio this morning, Maneater, and I just couldn't help humming along to that great old song. Then the humming turned into singing, then the singing turned into swaying, then the swaying turning into full out dance-athon! I brought out my old 80s dance with the swaying arms and the two steppin' feet.

Dancing to 80s music
It felt good to groove to my 'classic' music. Love a good Hall and Oates Tune.

I'm a MANEATER - Hall and Oates funny
I always liked their look, trendy 80s fashion eh? Wonder if they'd survive in today's digital world where singing and looks are revamped using computer-stuff.

Hall and Oates before photoshop HAHA
The next song that came on the 'classic rock' station, after my Hall and Oaties' Maneater, was Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. The song that would probably be dead and gone had it not been for that car scene in Wayne's World. Well of course I rocked out to it and sang every word, even the high pitched oohs and yaaahs.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen and Star Trek meme
Then, by request, a Toto song came on. My second fav Toto song, Hold the line, where they are a little more rock than, well whatever Africa is. I can picture the video where they have big hair, scruffy beards, and a keyboard. Classic 80s.

More TOTO and more cowbell
I still love Africa by Toto, and it's on all of my playlists...or what we used to call mixed tapes.

Toto Bless the rains meme
Speaking of tapes, er cassettes. The other day I was cleaning out some junk and found pre-cassette things called records. Aka vinyls. Apparenlty they are really trendy now. I sold a bunch of them online to some hipster guy with big glasses for $5 each. He was looking for anything "80s". Well, luckily that's all I had.

Yes, I still have my WHAM records
I joked around with the guy who came to pick up the records that I had something in common with Joan Jett - that I loved Rock 'n Roll. He didn't laugh.

Joan Jett I love Rock and Roll
I also gave the kid a lesson in 80s history. When I handed over the Motley Crue albums I showed him a picture of the CRUE dressed in drag. I thought it might shock him a bit. Didn't. Guess I'm getting old and out of the loop?

Awkward 80s fashion - Motley Crue drag
I told the guy I was a roadie for The Police back in the early 80s. I had to explain that the Police was a band, with Sting as singer. He told me he gets Sting and Bono mixed up sometimes. Who does that?

Roadie with the Police back in the 80s and still rocking today
As he was leaving, the hipster guy asked me if I still listen to 80s rock. What kind of question is that? Of course I do...I'm not sure why he was asking? I even kept my hairband hair.

Yes, I listen to 80s rock
80s hair. A big mane of it. Apparently, that was THE reason Patrick Swayze was chosen to star in Dirty Dancing.
Dirty Dancing movie audition - Swayze won it with the big hair
Now that my garage is cleaned out I can set up my punching bag, which I bought in the 80s, and practice my kung-fu, b/c as Carl Douglas says, everybody was kung-fu fighting...and if they all are, I want to be ready.
Really? EVERYONE was kung-fu fighting?
The only 80s era song that gives me the creeps is Tiffany's I think we're alone now. I'm not sure why, but when I hear it all I think of is high waisted jeans, ill fitting shirts, tinted glasses, and fu man chu moustaches. uuh, I'm getting shivers.

I think we're alone now
So, if you are like me and love your 80s music, keep it alive by playing it loud and playing it often. Oh and if you run across some punk who says they don't like 80s music. Well...

When someone says they don't like 80s music

MORE 80S MUSIC QUOTES

80S MUSIC QUOTES

The songs of the 1980s get stuck in my head all the time. Some of the lyrics repeat over and over. No, I don't think anything is wrong with that b/c it happens to a lot of us. We are not getting old, as Bruce Springsteen says, we are just reliving our Glory Days! "They'll pass you by Glory Days. In the wink of young girl's eye. Glory Days!"

Bruce Springsteen - GLORY DAYS
I often get the Eurythmics tune in my head when I watch the weather forecast. But only when rain is expected. "Here Comes The Rain Again".

Eurythmics - Here Comes The Rain Again
If there is no rain in the forecast I typically go for a little run. I put on my old 80s windsuit, get out the walkman, and crank up the 80s tunes. My favourite mix tape starts with Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up. I tell my 80s music, "I'm never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never gonna turn around and desert you."
Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
And, then I go for you my workout. When I say I go for a 'run', I really mean brisk walk. But, I'm still reminded of RUN DMC and their collaboration with Aerosmith - Walk This Way. And I do. I "Walk This Way" in my 1980s style Adidas!

RUN DMC - WALK THIS WAY
I'm not stylish, I'm just cheap. I keep the same shoes for forty years. Which is why I have the original Adidas shoes. Like Run DMC says, "it's like that. And that's the way it is! Huh!"

RUN DMC - It's like that
When I get home from my run, er brisk walk...alright, slow walk. Then I relax. I put on some Frankie Goes to Hollywood and listen to the lyrics, "RELAX". Thanks Frankie.

Frankie says RELAX
Then I sit and think for a bit. I find sometimes my mind drifts to bad pun kind-of jokes, or as my kid's call them, "Dad-Jokes". My favourite is a play on George Harrison's hit Got My Mind Set On You. I picture George thinking of the letter U. Get it? I got my mind set on U? Drum roll please.

George Harrison - Got my mind set on you meme
Then I sit around and wait for my kids to call me. That's a sure sign I'm old. While I wait I get Blondie's CALL ME repeating through my brain. "Call Me Any-Anytime!"

BLONDIE - CALL ME
Then I head off to bed. I take a moment to think of the best bed I ever slept on. It was in a hotel in the early 80s. The bed had a 'magic fingers' vibrator which was so relaxing. Reminds me of the AC/DC song "YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG". B/c the bed literally did that, if you put enough quarters into it.

AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long joke
