I'm still listening to my 80s music. The 1980s were a different time. For one thing the girls were into hair bands - which were usually men dressed up like women.

A great example, Motley Crue. The girls girls girls went crazy over Motley Crue.

I'm still listening to the Crue. I relive the old times by putting on my high waisted jeans and playing the vinyl. The original vinyl that I bought from Sam the Record man in 1985!

I found my record collection the other day, and to my surprise I found A-HA! I loved take on me!

My vinyl collection was mostly made up of New Wave music. What the heck does New Wave even mean? Tears for Fears, Duran Duran, Adam Ant, Psychedelic Furs...I'm still confused.

There was also a picture attached to a Skid Row album of the time I tried to make my hair bigger than any hair band member. It was tough, but I did it. 1987!!!

I picked up a Dirty Dancing record at a yard sale. I always pictured Hungry Eyes as a cartoon wolf.

Billy Idol and Gen X made up a chunk of the milk carton of vinyl. Wonder if Billy really did want a White Wedding. White tuxedos were hip in the 80s, combined with pink cumber buns.

In the Air Tonight, still love the drum part in that song. Apparently Phil played a lot of instruments other than the drums. He played a little guitar. The obo?

Great guitar players that I think were overlooked - the guy from Dire Straits. Boy could those guys play a lick. They were more than the Sultans of Swing. Not quite a Van Halen, but great in their own way.

Our WILD BOYS of the 80s, DURAN DURAN, were a great example of 80s decadence! With their over the top party lifestyle, the countless women, the voluminous hair, the trendy clothes, and those great videos that played over and over on MTV!
Simon and the boys still have a huge, dedicated, fan base and their songs are still popular on the retro radio stations. And, they had so many hits didn't they?

My favourite song was always WILD BOYS! Doesn't that just describe them to a 'T', or should I say double 'D'!

I wasn't the only big fan of Duran. It's a well-known fact that Princess Dianna liked to listen to the synthesizer beats of Duran Duran in her early adulthood. I think she was just as nervous to meet them as they were to meet her!

THE POWER STATION - 80s SUPERGROUP

Part Duran Duran Part Robert Palmer

In the mid 80s Duran Duran took a bit of a break as a band. A couple of the members of Duran Duran (John Taylor & Andy Taylor)...NOT Simon Lebon [insert sad face] teamed up with Robert Palmer and created a few songs. 

Personally, I don't love the Power Station music, but, with the celebrity power behind the Taylors and Palmer I can understand why their song Some Like it Hot & Bang a Gong were top billboard hits. And, why they got to perform on SNL and have an interview on Good Morning America - 

But, of course with all musical supergroups there are problems. Ego problems. You put together a few big-headed successful musicians who are used to having their own way with their other band, add that 'creative temperment' and BOOM you've got fireworks. Apparently there were a few blow ups with Palmer getting all defensive about 'who created Power Station's sound'. That's just the rumours.

Whenever I heard this song all I can think about is the Lampoon's movie European Vacation. Rusty daydreams he is some sort of celebrity walking through a club that is playing this song while scantily clad ladies (in their 80s aerobic outfits) dance and claw at him.

I found a really good cover of the song done by a band called CHIN CHIN. I bet it would be hard to cover a song like this, and I like Chin Chin's funky take on it ...

SIMON LEBON DURAN DURAN FUNNY QUOTES

Simon Lebon, that big haired stylish hottie from that 80s supergroup Duran Duran, has said some great things over the years. Some people said he had a bit of an attitude; perhaps thought he was a gift to the world? I won't argue with that. But, I'll let you decide based on the following quotes from Sir Simon.

Flashback to the early 80s and Duran Duran is by far the super coolest thing around. They had the cool hair, the blazers, the parachute pants...cool things. Nowadays, those things are coming back into fashion - so, Duran Duran still looks cool to this very day! And, I still hear their music on the radio (it may be the 'classic rock' or 'retro mix' station, but, RIO and ORDINARY WORLD are still blasting from the speakers of my ride (which is now a minivan...not a Pontiac Firebird with a T roof).

In the early 80s Duran Duran toured the world. Simon especially loved touring through Asia. “All I cared about was finding women,” Simon later recalled about his time there. “And I’d go to the clubs where the Western models meet, and I’d take ’em back home with me. And I’d spend all my time either in the nightclub, or in my bedroom bonking!”

What a cool dude! Love that he used the word 'bonk'. That makes me laugh.

Apparently, Simon chooses to support football teams according to their colours. According to the Manchester United Football website, Simon Lebon is a big fan - sadly, the support seems to be solely based on the colour of jerseys. 

I guess for a musician / artist, colour is more important than athletic skills, stats, that kind of thing.
