HALL AND OATES - FUNNY MEMES

HALL AND OATES - FUNNIES

Or hauling oats as I call them...what? Common mistake.

I shouldn't joke, these guys are awesome. They are one of the top selling duos of all time with 40 or 50 million albums sold. They have chart toppers like Rich Girl, Man Eater, I Can't Go For That, Private Eyes, Kiss is on my list, Out...of...touch...and I'm out of breath!

Even though they are wicked cool song writers (even Hipsters like them!) they have a hilarious catalogue of bad photos...that just invite memes.

To me, John Oates and Tom Selleck are those classic 80s moustache guys - the connection there, at least for me, is Three Men and a Baby! Remember that movie? Tom was in it, and so was the Hall & Oates song You Make My Dreams Come True. To stretch this connection further how about this meme?
Private investigator (aka Private 'I') Magnum PI is watching you?
I love explaining jokes.
If you follow NHL hockey you'll think this is a hoot - in the early 90s Brett Hull and Adam Oates played together, in other words, Hull & Oates!!!
Not sure who had the better hair Hall & Oates or Hull & Oates?

All 80s hair and moustache jokes aside, these guys are still playing together to this day. In fact, they are planning on touring with Tears for Fears this summer - warm up the ambulance eh?

Really, they still look pretty good. The only difference is that Hall now has facial hair and Oates' facial hair has moved down below his lip.

TWISTED SISTER - STILL AS TWISTED AS EVER

 I WANNA ROCK

I remember this white cassette - the Twisted Sister cassette!
I would play We're Not Going To Take It or I Wanna Rock on a little cassette player while I sat in my bedroom window. When people would walk by I would up the volume (sometimes to 11) until they looked over at me. Ah, a rebel without a cause at age 7. An annoying little rebel :) Funny to look back on now.

It turns out Twisted Sister is funny to look back on too. Not just the overdressed costumed drag/apocalyptic caveman that Dee Snider was...

First, did you know they are from Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey...that's a funny name for a place.

Second, they were often labeled as 'Glam Rock'. Makes sense to me, they did dress up in lots of extravagant costumes. But, Dee Snider was always offended by this. Really? Well, I guess he does have a point, they didn't use glitter or shiny sequins or anything 'glammy' like that...I'm stretching here guys.

The fashion sense of Twisted Sister

Third, they had awesome nicknames. Here goes...

Daniel Snider - DEE (who would have known his 'real' name was Daniel)
Mark Mendoza - THE ANIMAL (Bass player and 'animal'? Oh, sarcasm!)
Eddie Ojeda - FINGERS (A guitarist named 'fingers'...original)
Michael Portnoy - MIKE (The poor drummer must have gotten his nickname after all the creative juice had been drunk?)

FINGERS is not only hot on the guitar, but, he is hot on sauce...as in he makes hot sauce now. You can buy it online at twistedhotsauce.com. What a funny second career eh?

Twisted Sister was such a band of the times eh? Excessive outfits, excessive music, excessive videos...ah, to be in the 80s again! Not in our 80s, but, back in the decade of the 80s...

COVER to COVER - KIDS IN AMERICA | Kim Wilde

Let's take a look at an 80s song and the subsequent covers of that song - we'll call this series of blog posts Cover 2 Cover.

Today's song: Kids in America

This song was Kim Wylde's debut. Kids of America was a huge hit for her in Europe, especially in Finland (for some reason) where it was a #1 hit. All across Europe it peaked at 2 (UK), 3 & 4 on all the charts.

But, for some reason it took a year for the song to make its way across the Atlantic to the US where it had marginal success peaking at around #30. Kim was apparently given a hard time about some of the lyrics, "New York to East California"...there really is no 'East California'. California is about the furthest west you can go in the USA. Who knows if that was the reason, but whatever it was this song didn't perform as well as it did in Europe. And unlike other charting songs of the time this one did not make it into the standard songs played years later on 'classic rock' or '80s hits' radio stations. At least in North America.

Fast forward twenty years. 1995. A new movie is released that makes some major waves - the movie Clueless. Which was essentially about ditsy/valleygirl teens in America, so what better song to go along with the movie than 'Kids in America'? A cover of the song done by The Muffs was the opening track in this movie...and I'm kind of embarrassed to say, this was the first time I recall ever hearing this song. It wasn't until years later that I heard the Kim Wilde original. And I call myself an 80s music lover?

Even with the added boost of the movie it was still very rare to hear Kids in America on the radio.

Even though the song is now almost forty years old (ouch) it is still making the rounds. Every once in a while it gets covered - like by the Donnas.

It is also a song on that video game ROCK BAND.

Personally, I love this song. I have it on high rotation on my internet radio station and I promote it any chance I get. I think it's a classic, simple song that will never get old. The Muff's version rocks too!

FUNNY AC/DC MEMES

LAUGH ALONG WITH AC/DC

AC/DC have been around forever, but, really had their hayday in the 80s! With hits like Highway to Hell, Hells Bells, Who Made Who...and that song even non-rockers like You Shook Me All Night Long!  Was that about an earthquake? I've never been able to figure that one out.

They put on a good show too - even invented the wrecking ball thing that Miley Cyrus tried recently.

Bon Scott, who tragically passed in 1980, was quite the jokester.

Remember, Bon, stretch those tattoos by drinking your milk
I guess he played the bagpipes like a BOSS!

The Bagpipe Boss Bon Scott!
Then there is Angus Young - the school boy outfit wearin' guitar god. He found an outfit and went with it - winter, summer, rocking out, partying...school boy goes with any activity. I believe he inspired the facebook guy Mark Zukkerberg and his grey tshirt everday. One less think go think about.

Angus, you look pretty!

Angus was also great with giving journalists great quotes.

They may sound similar, as in all rock!

AC/DC - gotta love 'em

With so many songs to choose from people have come up with some pretty good gags.

And, of course the name and Logo is well known and loved.

Not sure why they wore such tight pants?!

Why so tight?

Rock on readers and thanks for stopping by.

P.S. I've put together a page of awesome AC/DC t-shirts every fan NEEDS!
